Our Gift to You: 1000 Free Language Lessons

The famous Chinese philosopher, Laozi, said that a journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step. And he’s absolutely right. The proverb nails the essence of every important goal we set in life because even the longest and most difficult journeys have a starting point. The secret is to take one step at a time.

This proverb is a perfect representation of each learning journey.

It all starts with the decision to start learning and a goal in mind. Some people only want to learn a few words and phrases to impress their friends, some want to be able to have basic conversations in a new language while others want to go all the way to being fluent. Whatever the goal, the secret is to take baby steps until you get there.

The proverb is a great piece of inspiration for Mondly as well. We started with a baby step 3 and a half years ago when we decided to launch our iOS app. Soon after we launched a feature that was going to become the catalyst of Mondly’s success and the most popular feature among our learners: the free daily lesson.

Back then, we had the ambitious goal of reaching 1000 free daily lessons. Like every big goal, it felt overwhelming, but we decided to take one step at a time and make it happen. Today, we are thrilled to share with you some fabulous news: we reached our 1000th free daily lesson!

It was a long, but beautiful journey and we enjoyed every single step.

The good news is that the journey continues. Like every other milestone we reach in life, there always a next milestone that’s even bolder. For us, the next milestone is 3000 free daily lessons. It will take us 5.5 years to reach it, but we are committed to bringing you new daily lessons for years to come. The first step on this new journey starts tomorrow, so join us on our journey by committing to complete at least one Mondly lessons every day.

1x Mondly lesson = 1x baby step toward learning a new language

Because we believe it’s important to make small steps toward learning a new language, our daily lessons are created to feel just like baby steps. Every lesson takes less than 5 minutes to complete so it’s extremely easy to learn a few new words and phrases every day. Every new Mondly lesson you complete represents a step on your journey towards reaching your goal (whatever it is). Keep taking these small steps every day and you’ll be amazed how far you’ll get in just a week of learning with Mondly. Next thing you know you’ll form the healthy habit of learning something new every day. Once this happens, nothing can stop you from reaching your goal.

To make it effortless for you to learn, each Mondly lesson is designed to help you absorb a few new words and phrases as easy as ABC. The game-like exercises and the beautiful design will make the journey interactive and fun. At the end of the lesson, you’ll feel you know more than before, but you had fun along the way.

And because you deserve to be praised for each step you take towards fluency, we designed a system that rewards you for learning. Complete any lesson and you will get points that help you visualize your progress. If you’re motivated by competition, these points add up and help you climb our national and international leaderboards.

  1. It is a pleasure for me to use Mondly! I cannot compare it with Duolingo. I love how Mondly is not with ads and is free of charge to download in tablets and cell phones, Android or Apple. I am glad you can learn a new language on Mondly using a language you are already fluent in, regardless if it’s a native language or another one you are fluent in. I hope next you add many more languages, even continue to beat Duolingo (add languages like Albanian, Slovak, Slovene, Icelandic, Greenlandic, Catalan, Basque, Belarusian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian, Mongolian, Khmer, Maltese, Zulu, Yiddish, Armenian, Georgian, Bengali, Quechua, Guarani, Maori, Tamil, Hawaiian, Samoan, Swahili) – to have even more options for language learning. Mondly is with more advanced options than Duolingo, even with Mondly starting later than Duolingo, as learning from your native language on Mondly but on Duolingo the main focus is learning a new language using English, and languages like Finnish, Indonesian, Chinese, Arabic and Persian are not currently on Duolingo but are on Mondly. The daily lessons are great. I have used the premium which is great! I hope to later become intermediate in my first target languages, French and Czech, to change on Mondly, become more fluent and do more challenging lessons. May you also add more topics on the premium content, like arts, professions, clothing, nature, feelings, meeting people, stages of life, what is around the kitchen/rooms/bathrooms of a home, health, anatomy, religion, objects, hobbies, life events, entertainment, technology, everyday things we need and use, natural disasters, space and astronomy, body functions, around the city, geography, school subjects, what is in a place (as a daycare center/library/clinic/hospital/school/store/church/fair/and more), adjectives for description, at a place (as the doctor/food store/gym/school/workplace/concert/fair/zoo/library and much more), maps, directions, history, vacations and holidays, daily routine, special events and occasions, at a party, weddings, places to live. And may Mondly be free for life and use the premium account always and with the future of adding these things as the premium that I mentioned and even more things than the ones I mentioned for adding in the future. By the time it is 3000 daily lessons done let’s have about 80 or more languages already available for learning on Mondly, and maintain the ability to learn using one’s languages of fluency. Connecting with native speakers should continue to be the Mondly thing. I am learning French and Czech right now on Mondly, and already know Spanish and English fluently, so I am learning French on Mondly using English and Czech using Spanish. When I have reached the intermediate or advanced levels of French and Czech I will do Swedish, Romanian and German more often, and on Mondly I will do those languages too when I have gotten fluent in Czech and French. Mondly is now my favorite language learning program, I would recommend it to anyone else who is learning or wanting/needing to learn new languages. It is helpful in so many ways. Mondly, thank you/gracias/merci/děkuji!

    1. Wow! Thanks for the kind words & suggestions, Jose. I will pass your suggestions to the team.

These kinds of comments keep us motivated on our journey. We will definitely keep on innovating and adding new languages.

      Have a nice day!

    2. It’s good to hear that you like this better than Duolingo. Duolingo does not offer the language I am learning and I’ve always been jealous of other people who are using it. I just started using Mondly and I’m enjoying it a lot so far!

  2. My family is Hungarian. I have relatives I have never met. I want to become fluent in Hungarian then travel to Hungary to meet them. I have never been there and they don’t speak english. Hopefully soon I will be in Hungary with family speaking fluent Hungarian and Mondly is certainly making it easier. It is so easy to follow and understand. I look forward to the daily lessons.

    1. That’s a wonderful reason to learn Hungarian, Sharon! A lot of people learn a language with Mondly to connect to their relatives overseas. Hearing such wonderful stories is uplifting.

  3. I thank you for this wonderful app. I am learning Finnish deemed one of the most difficult languages to learn. But your app has made it so doable and I’m feeling confident living in Finland knowing I have mondly. I have recommended mondly to 6 other friends learning different languages. Thank you once again. I was born In Fiji so looking forward to Fiji-Hindi and Fijian added one day. I am a citizen of New Zealand hence Maori would be just as awesome. Thank you ?

  4. I love learning with Mondly. It was introduced to me by my friend who teaches German. I am trying to learn Polish. I started out with just Google translate but I know GT does not always get it right. I then tried Duolingo for a while and that was much more practical. I am impressed that Mondly has a chatbot so learners can practice speaking.

Why am I trying to learn Polish? I was in a near fatal accident and brought out of a severe coma by brilliant medical staff in hospital. The medical team which helped me regain consciousness were from all over the EU Spain, Portugal, Poland. They were all very dedicated people. I was very moved by the care I was given by all and especially the Polish staff.

I decided to try to learn to show friendship and respect to these lovely kind people.
It is a challenge and not easy but on the few times I have been able to speak Polish with someone from Poland it has been wonderful to see the smiles it brings.
